We are often asked how The Pearl Strand began. My husband Bob and I went to China in 1996 to work for Caterpillar in the interior of China. Due to the remote location, I was very thankful to occasionally get out of the interior and visit Beijing. While in Beijing, I spent much of my free time at the Pearl Market shopping and learning about pearls. Occasionally, I bought pearl jewelry for myself as well as relatives and friends back in the US. Each time we came home to the US for a short break, friends would ask me to bring pearls back for them and of course I was more than happy to do so.
Bob and I had the opportunity to move to Beijing in January of 1999. The Pearl Market became a place I visited frequently. It was during this time that I began to think of creating a business rather than just having a "hobby"! The more I focused on the business aspect, the more diligent I became learning who would supply the highest quality jewelry at the best price. I knew that if our business was to be successful, we needed to provide quality pearl jewelry at prices everyone could afford. When we moved back to the US in March of 2001, I brought back quite a number of pearl jewelry designs to sell to family and friends. The more people bought, the more they wanted. Our Idaho based business has grown from that small beginning and was incorporated as The Pearl Strand in 2002. The business has since spread to a number of states and is continuing to flourish. Our phenomenal growth is due to the value priced unique jewelry and the motivated, energetic professional consultants who are building profitable businesses of their own.
